Vampire Diaries

Hello Everyone!!

I am writing this at 12:21 AM in the morning. My little girl is a big night owl, and we are hitting the sack at 4 am almost every night. I am not going to lie, we have had some rough nights. So I decided to start a night time ritual that allows us to kind of condition us to get ready for bed. So when I feed her at about 6 to 7 pm. I put her down and start setting the mood. Mood lighting, lullaby music (courtesy of Pandora), and the temperature in the room is just right. Then at 10 pm I feed her, and try to take a nap with her before her 1 or 2 am feeding.

I did take her to the pediatrician to make sure she was ok. Everything is good, but I was told that it loos like I have been over feeding her. The pediatrician thought I was formula feeding her. NOPE she is chuncky of breast milk lol. She is now....almost 12 pounds and is about 6 weeks old :-) So my baby likes to eat, who am I to unlatch her early lol Clearly the doctor hasn't seen Big Head. He was a big baby as well.

Good news!! Riva does sleep in her crib. Yay!! I great friend sent me a handmade baby pod and it helps to cover her at night. She does not like to be swaddled, so this is an awesome alternative. I have been cheating and sitting on my medicine ball to bounce her to sleep lol. I have to say standing up to rock her is not comfortable. I do sing to her everyday and we listen to music all the time. I am getting nervous about going back to work. The cost of daycare is no joke, and I have like NOT working lol, but I will be ready to see my normal paycheck again lol.

Here is a random experience. The car seat thingy that allows you to just click in the car seat is annoying. I'd rather buckle and unbuckle her in and out its so much faster. My sister-in-law also graduated culinary school, and I was able to use the moby wrap which was awesome for the small space and I didn't have to lug the stroller. I have considered purchasing a stroller frame, but I don't know if I want to cough up that kind of money. Decisions Decisions.

Now I don't know if its the baby throwing me off, but I have not purchased 1 Christmas gift. HELP AMAZON!!! wish me luck lol

I hope everyone has a great Holiday and New Year.
See you next year

My Little Jet Setter

Hello Everyone!!!

So while my little angel take a nap, I am going to tell you all about our trip to Orlando.

Going to Orlando was slightly easier because Big Head was there to carry the baby while I handled other items through customs. I also had my moby wrap and wore that the entire time at the airport, even on the plane. Riva was asleep the entire time in that thing. Probably one of the best things I have ever purchased (thanks Craig's List lol). I was able to grab my luggage and get her in the car seat just fine. I did decide to check the car seat and stroller at the ticker counter. But with all that being said, her feeding schedule was turned upside down and we were all out of whack, which made for a very difficult evening at my mother's house. By the second day, I was able to get her back on schedule. The funny thing is, I really think Riva knew we were not at home. She just could never get comfortable. For two nights she slept in her car seat. My mother also spoiled her by picking her up even when she was just a little fussy, something that does not happen at home. I don't pick her up that much. Because of the C-section, I can't comfortably hold her throughout the night.

On the way back from Orlando, I decided that I was going to check the car seat and stroller at the gate. BAD IDEA when you are by yourself. I did not know you actually had to put both through the conveyor belt. That was crazy. So picture me holding Riva, collapsing the stroller, putting both the stroller and car seat on the conveyor belt, taking off my shoes. Then grabbing all that stuff, WHILE STILL HOLDING A NEWBORN!!! OMG and no one helped. Some women that also had babies helped be, but that's because their significant other had their stuff lol. Its all a learning experience though. By the end of customs, me and Riva were both sweating lol. This time, I feed her at her normal feeding time, changed her diaper, burped her and she was great. Because my flight was low occupancy, I was able to bring the car seat on board at no additional charge, That was Amazing!! me and the baby got a really good nap. I even nursed her on the plane. There was no one near me so I was self conscious or anything.

Overall, It was a good trip and I am glad my baby got to meet my amazing mother!! I definitely can't wait to do another trip.

Happy Two Weeks!!

Hello Everyone!

So Riva is officially 2 weeks old!  I can't believe I've been a mom for two weeks eek. I wish I could say I am getting the hang of it, but everyday seems to be a new experience lol. She used to eat every 3 hours, but now she wants to eat every 2 hours. Breastfeeding is definitely hard work, but I still like doing it. I have been able to pump often. I read somewhere that if you pump after nursing, then your  body will make more milk. I have at least 2 days worth in my freezer :-) I am trying to get ready for her daycare days in January. Co-workers at my job gave me a gift card to Babies R Us, so I used some of the money to purchase milk storage bags and bottles. The hospital gave me some as well, but not enoungh for what I am pumping lol.

On Monday I will be going to Orlando to visit my mother. I am so excited for her to see and meet Riva. I know they are going to love each other instantly. I am a little nervous about traveling on a plan with a newborn, so ant suggestion will be greatly appreciated. I read a blog saying that you should breastfeed or bottle feed during taking off to help with ear pressure. Normally, Riva is pretty 'gansta' when it comes to shots and uncomfortable visits  to the  doctor, so I don't doubt she will be fine. She is a tough sleeper. The other day she slept thorough the blender crushing ice. pretty crazy lol.

I have so much stuff to get together to travel her clothes, my clothes, diapers, wipes blankets, and more and more and more stuff lol. Should I bring the stroller? More stuff I never had to think about before. I will be flying Southwest airlines, so I am hoping they allow people with small children on first lol never noticed if southwest allows that. I did read that I should get an aisle seat so that I can walk up and down during the flight.

Well that is all for now. See you soon!

She is finally here!!

Hello everyone!

As some of you may know, I gave gave birth to a beautiful baby girl on November 7, 2013 at 7:04 pm.

On Wednesday, I was feeling contractions about 10 minutes apart the whole day. When I decided to go to bed early. Around 2:00 am, I was awakened out of my sleep with some intense contractions that were about 5 to 7 minutes apart. That when I decided to time them. By 3:00 am, my contractions were 5 minutes apart and lasting about 90 seconds. That when I decided to go to the hospital.

Its a little after 4:00 am, and I packed up my car checked  my listed and loaded the car seat. The drive to the hospital wasn't bad, but it did  feel like I was catching every single red light on my way there. I entered the emergency entrance and was sent to triage in the maternity wing. After about  an hour of observation, they said I was going to have my baby today and that it was time to move to my delivery room!! Yikes! I was scared and excited. That's when I decided to call my fiance, sister, mom and mother-in-law.

My water was broken about half way through labor, and that when labor got intense!! I mean like out of body intense. My fiance ended up showing up right at 10 centimeters and ready to push. After about 2 hours of pushing and no progress, my midwife and doctor said I had to have a C-section.

Oh I went HAM on them lol. There were a lot of tears. After handling labor that long, I felt defeated that I had to get a C-section. My doctor let try to go vaginal for another hour. Where We tried a bunch of different positions, but nothing worked :-( The anesthetist was called in and before you knew it I was getting wheeled into the operating room. I even had 2 nurses that stayed after their shift to be in the operating room. Big Head was also in the room. I don't remember all the details, all I remember is hearing her cay as soon as they pulled her out and seeing her face for the first time. They called out 7:04 pm. They handed her to Big Head and he went with her to the nursery as I was getting stitched together.

The doctors and nurses were amazed at how well I was doing and sent me home after 2 days. The baby passed all her test with flying colors. I know everyone wants to know her name and stats so here you go:

Riva Symiah
Born 7:04pm November 7, 2013
7 pounds 12 ounces
21 inches long

We are both now home and getting the hang of everything. She cries a lot and the first 2 nights were rough, but we are definitely getting into a routine that I can handle lol. Sometimes I find myself just watching her. I have made the decision to breastfeed and it was a little hard at first, but I am definitely enjoying that bounding time with her. I get to see my mom soon, and I can't wait for her to meet my daughter (OMG I have a daughter).

I hope to update you all on how motherhood is going so please stay tuned
See you soon,
Sabrina

Don't Judge Me!!!

Hello everyone!!

Well with only 16 days left till my due date, I have been off the vegan wagon. My amazing mom came into town and made me Haitian style oatmeal. It has carnation milk and tons and tons of butter lol. It was sooo yummy!! I also took my mom to Cheesecake Factory. She had never been, so my fiance sent me some extra money to treat her. I had a salad, but we did share a pumpkin pecan cheesecake. Man it was amazing. I almost snapped at the waitress for trying to remove the plate with one more bite left on the plate. Doesn't she know don't mess with a pregnant women and her plate lol. I also went to Popeye's, because I had a craving for biscuits. OMG so freaking good lol.

I promise, I am going to get back on the wagon. It was a minor slip. Had a great week seeing my mom, brother and twin sis!! Those kids are crazy lol. My mom did get to come to my appointment. Still just 1 cm dilated. Ugh!! Sometimes I just want her here already lol. My sister even got to see my stomach move lol It was pretty creepy looking lol. I also got to teach my sis some baking skills lol. We got to make banana bread, sticky buns, and sugar cookies from scratch.

I have been feeling some contractions, but very dull ones. It kind of feels like a menstrual cramp that grows in intensity, but then goes away. With 16 days left, she can come at anytime. I had a friend say there is a full moon next week, so you never know.

I am getting really nervous now. My stomach is definitely getting in the way, and I am definitely feeling slower and tried. It is getting harder to get out of the bed too and I have to say sitting on the toilet is so comfortable lol. My mother-in-law let me borrow her medicine ball and I love that thing. I just watch TV and sit on it, do homework, and even talk on the phone lol.

Hope everyone has a good week. See you soon.

3 weeks to go!!

Hello everyone!!

Well I made it to 37 weeks! I am officially OVER IT! My tail bone pain has been worse, rib pain, and using the bathroom like crazy. My doctor still says I am 1 cm dilated, and I was cleared to travel to my sister's wedding. I have been drinking a lot of tea and water. I think the only reason my feet haven't been swollen is because all the water I've been drinking. My older sis got me a water purifier for my faucet, so no more bottle water needed :-) Now I think it is important for babies to have regular  tap water, so the purifier is really for me lol.

My mom is also in town, so its been nice hanging with her. She was able to go to my appointment and hear the baby's heart beat and meet my doctor. I normally go to those appointments by myself, so it was really nice. And I even had some  Haitian style oatmeal made for me so that was definitely a plus.

I have been very irritable lately. Like people irritate me, full gas stations irritate me, and rude neighbors lol. But hey, I guess that is what come with it all. Baby doesn't move as much with so little space, but she always wants to remind me that she is in there once a day with a large stretch and sometimes a roll.

I am definitely getting really tired and experiencing some dry eye. But I guess if the baby is healthy, who cares what the other stuff is. I am so excited to see her and can't wait for my family to meet her.

3 WEEKS TO GO!!!

See you soon

28 days left!!

Hello everyone,

I am officially in the 9th month of my pregnancy. I had a visit with my midwife that went great. I had the take the Step B test. This test is invasive, and I should have the results on my next visit. I go to an appoint every week now. I also got a cervical exam. I found out I was 1 cm. lol don't worry that is nothing. My cervix is still pretty high and mucus plug is still intact. I am definitely getting anxious!!

I had some awesome gifts come in the mail like a bathtub, hand sanitizer, and a faucet water purifier :-) I am still trying to figure out where to store the bathtub lol, but for now its in the crib lol. Some good news is I was able to find some really cheap, but quality nursing bras at Burlington Coat Factory. A friend of mine also suggested nursing tank tops are a must have as well.

I have a new symptom, ugh. LEG CRAAMPS!! And I mean in the middle of the night. and man are they painful. I also still have lower back pain, tail bone pain, and I am extremely sleepy. I have also been extremely emotional lately. I feel really bad for my fiance, but he has been nice and just says quiet on the phone and lets me go crazy on him lol

Great news, is my mom will get to come to my next appointment. She will hear the baby's heartbeat for the first time. I don't know what it is, but no matter how crazy your mom is lol, its always nice to have her and experience my first born with her. I am a little sad I wasn't able to get an appointment when my sister came to town, but I will let her her the baby with my stethoscope.

My older sister is getting married next weekend as well. I was instructed my doctor and midwife that I will need to bring my hospital bag, prenatal history, and my birth plan if I intend to go. You aren't supposed to travel after 34 weeks, and I will make that decision as the days get closer. I was told that I could not drive for a long period of time, that I should be sitting down the whole time, and to stay relaxed. So that is what I am hoping to do. But, like I said anything can happen in a week. I am officially 36 weeks today, so technically next week my baby is full term. My midwife says that first babies either come a week early or a week late, so will will see what time she comes.

Hope everyone is having a good month. If you are not, cheer up its HALLOWEEN  soon. :-)
See you soon,

Sabrina

Awful Start to my week

Hello everyone!!

OMG I've had some crazy stuff happen and it has only been my first day off. So yesterday, while working, I broke a tooth. Yes a piece of tooth came completely off. I know crazy!! So this morning I went to the dentist. I was told I needed a Root Canal and a crown!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!! this baby is taking my teeth too lol. If you know me and my family, we love our teeth. I love whitening them, I brush 2 times a day, I even floss every day. So why in the hek do I need a root canal, ugh!! Luckily, I do have dental insurance, but even with insurance it a crap load of money. (note to self: become a dentist). But they are saying if I wait to long the damage could be more severe, painful and even more expensive!! What the hek am I supposed to do. I have left a message for my doctor's nurse to contact me because I am only allowed Tylenol for pain medication, and with this tooth procedure I don't know if that is going to cut it. Now I am just waiting for a call back.

This Thursday will be the last week  in month 8 of pregnancy. So, my due date is definitely approaching quickly. After this appoint, I will have an appointment every week until I give birth. I feel like that is going to make the weeks go by even faster.

Also, this morning I wake up and find a rash on my hip. It doesn't itch but it is definitely red. But there is no rash anywhere else. WTF. My face and feet are also starting to swell. Before you know it, I am going to look think a butter ball with extra butter. Skin has also been extremely oily lately. I find myself touch up my make-up more than usually.

I have been having some back, tailbone and hip bone pain as well. I honestly feel like an old lady (no offense to the elderly). I only have about 5 more Saturdays of class left so I hope my little one wait just a little longer.

Just a quick follow up, see ya soon.

Time is running out!

Hello everyone!

So I wanted to wait to make another post after my doctor appointment. I had one today with an ultrasound. Now, don't get to excited, the baby was moving so much we couldn't even get a good picture. The technician also told me that the bigger the baby, the worse the picture can be. Oh poopie! I was really looking forward to seeing her face. The picture we did get is still cute, and I think she is going to look exactly like Big Head. Yay!!

The baby is also measuring at about 6 lbs and in is the 65th percentile. So I was told she is measuring bigger, but all seems well. The more awesome news is, I didn't gain any weight from my last visit! Woot woot!! And I have to be honest, I have been eating like a pig. I guess walking around Walmart is paying off lol. She is also head down now.

On a serious note, I did have a positive fetal fibronectin test. This test determines if have an inkling to go in to preterm labor (in la min terms). If you have a negative test you are definitely not going to go into preterm labor; if you have a positive test you could go into labor, but 80% of women go full term. I know it's kind of weird. My doctor is not worried, so I am not worried. He says he would like me to go 37 weeks, but if I go early he will be ready lol. I am glad he will I am not so sure I will lol.

I did pack my hospital bag. I was able to go to the dollar store and pick some travel items to take with me. Here are a few essential I have packed:
  • toothpaste
  • tootthbrush
  • mouthwash
  • lotion
  • chapstick
  • face wipes
  • slippers
  • bobby pins
  • hair ties
  • deodorant
I also had to pack a going home outfit for me. Just some yoga pants and a loose top. I also had to pack undies, nursing pads, nursing cover, and a blanket from home. I figure I would want something that smelt familiar.

For the baby, I backed her going home outfit, a hat, socks, and 2 blankets. I also packed her diaper bag, just in case we go to my mother-in-law's house (her house is a lot better for receiving visitors, without being cramped in my apartment).

I haven't felt like nesting, so I am taking that as a sign that I have some time lol. I have actually felt the opposite. I have felt like cleaning anything. I am officially  34 weeks tomorrow, and I am pretty sure my baby wants to go to my big sister's wedding to see what the fuss is about lol, but we will see.

I am nervous and excited. I do wish people would stop telling me to relax. I am relaxed, but I don't see people bending backwards to help take my trash out or bring my groceries up the stairs, so for now I still have to do those things. I do want to do a spiritual cleanse in my apartment, so if anyone had done one let  me know :-). I have been drinking 2 glasses of red raspberry tea everyday, so we will see if that helps with labor.

Hope everyone is great!
See you soon.

Long time no see

Hello everyone!

I am sorry its been so long since my last post. My life has been pretty boring these past couple of weeks lol. So let me catch you up on everything!

I am officially 32 weeks pregnant and only have 8 weeks to go!!! I am so happy it is almost over!! What I can say is-Why the hek are people rude to pregnant women? I don't want to hear how big I am, I'm not pregnant with twins, I am not popping out of anything, and I am walking just fine THANK YOU!!! So at 32 weeks, you can clearly see that I am pregnant. But now all I am hearing is "your so big," "are you sure you not having twins," and "don't worry, you are allowed to waddle with all that extra weight." Since when were those freaking compliments!! I have had to get rude on a couple of people and hurt their feelings. I mean I don't know if you know this, but your freaking rude! Here are some pointers: you can just say I look nice today, or how is the baby, or even do you have everything you need? You can still be polite without being an A**hole :-)

Also, I have stated repeatedly that I DO NOT want people to touch me. I am not a Buddha, nor a good luck charm; keep your hands to yourself! For personal reasons, I do not feel comfortable with people touching me. I have made that a known fact to people I interact with on a daily basis, but yet they are surprised when they are given a "love tap" denying them access. But no, they think its a joke, and try it a second time. So when I have to be rude and use force, they get upset. When you are pregnant you can let whoever you want touch you, but you cannot tell me i have to allow you to do anything when I politely have declined the first 2 times. My advise is to ask if the pregnant women would mind if you could touch her belly. I have never even given you a hug, but it fine enough to touch my mid section, how does that make sense?

Now everyone has been trying to figure out the name. Don't worry you only have 8 more weeks to find out so DON'T ask, guess, beg, or swindle because I ain't telling you. Don't worry you are not alone, my mother doesn't even know it.

Ok let talk real quick about the "baby shower" FOR THE LAST FREAKING TIME, I AM NOT HAVING A BABY SHOWER, BECAUSE NO ONE IS THROWING ME ONE!!! Now all these people want to get invited to a baby shower, but they know my family isn't here to throw me one. If you really consider yourself as a "friend" you will not need a baby shower to buy a gift. If you want to buy one, I will not decline. Me and the baby will appreciate it. But don't say-"how are you going to get gifts without one?" My family sent me a bunch of stuff, really really good friends sent me stuff, and don't worry my MAN take care of the rest. So for the phony people that want a free day of free food and booze, you got the wrong girl. And don't ask me about it again. thanks :-)

I am pretty much ready for baby. This month (October), I will be packing my hospital bag, filling out all hospital paperwork, finalizing my birth plan, disinfecting bottles, and drinking red raspberry leaf tea. Can you believe I am only 2 months away from a baby Smooth lol (everyone in college calls my fiance Big Smooth). I don't know about you, but it's about time!! I have been pregnant FOR-EV-ER!! LOL and I am ready to get my normal body and bowels back!! My next doctor appointment is in 2 weeks and I will get to have an ultrasound!! I am so excited because I haven't seen her since the anatomy scan during week 18 eek!! I can't wait! My doctor says he wants to see how big she is :-) I will let you know how it goes.

See ya soon

10 Weeks to go!!

Hello everyone!!

Can you believe that I only 10 weeks to go!! Now I still feel like I've been pregnant for forever, but the finish line is so close. On Monday I have my hospital tour and next Saturday I start my Phlebotomy class. So, it will be a busy week for me. On Wednesday I do see my Doctor as well. I do have a couple of questions for him because I think I have been feeling some contractions, so just want to make sure she is ok.

As I start this 3rd trimester, I am feeling like my 1st trimester. I have been extremely tired, nauseous, and irritable. Work is definitely getting harder especially in the office. It feels like every time I have to use the bathroom, it "closed for cleaning" lol WTF. I have been walking a lot. I don't walk outside because it has been so hot, but I will go to the mall and walk for at least an hour.

I haven't purchased any baby items this week, since Big Head put me on suspension, but I may go purchase some books this weeks and some more baskets for the coat closet. Nothing major. I am missing football season. Today I am watching the CSU game online, but its not the same like when you are in the stadium.

I am feeling more and more anxious with it only being 10 weeks to go. When you think about it, babies always come early, so there is a possibility I could be pregnant for just 4 weeks or 6 weeks lol yeah yeah yeah yea-ah!! I can't wait to see her face and call her name.

True Story: I attempted to install my car seat because I couldn't find the manual. When I finally took a break I realized the manual is under the car seat. LOL! That would have been nicce 20 minutes ago. Now I have to do my fiance's car next, so hopefully it will be easier lol.

Now the name is a mess and me and Big Head have decided to paper/ rock/ scissors it on her birthday lol Wish me luck!! I want R.S.B. and he wants S.R.B. AHHHH I want to win.

Thats all for now.
See ya :-)

This is why black colleges get a bad name!!

Hello everyone!!

So I was having (emphasis on WAS) a good day. Had a doctor's appointment. baby is sound and growing good. I only gained 4 pounds. I passed the glucose test. I even bought some baskets for my changing table. I was having an awesome day!

UNTIL..........................................................................

I have been wanting to take a Phlebotomy course for a very long time. I called NORFOLK STATE UNIVERSITY  HIGHER EDUCATION and with all the running around, finally got registered. I didn't want to fully pay for the class until orientation was scheduled, so that I could make sure they did not reschedule the class at a later time when I could not take it. I called once a week from July til now asking when is orientation being scheduled. All the receptionist stated. "They do not know, and you will receive something in the mail when it is scheduled."

Today I call as normal, and was told that orientation was LAST NIGHT and I am no longer allowed in the course because it was a mandatory meeting. I indicated to the lady Ms. Lee (yes that is her name) that I have not nor EVER  received anything from this school regarding the orientation for this course. She stated well because the mail or email was never returned to them they have to assume I got it. I advised her, that nothing was ever sent in the beginning. She then forwarded my call to Dr. Montgomery, who was very rude and stated that he would email me to make sure they had my information correct. I NEVER GOT AN EMAIL FROM HIM. So I emailed him. He them replies to my message, so I know my email works, and stated that the class is full and he can sign me up for January. I do not want to take the class in January when my child has been born. My days off will be spent with her and not with her at a babysitter till 10 pm every night. "How is the class full when I am registered for it Sir " I ask. Guess what NO FREAKING RESPONSE!!!

For the life of me, I do not understand why black people (not all, just ghetto, ignorant, stupid ones) have a character flaw of being unorganized, dishonest, dispassionate, and plain freaking lazy!!! Then have the audacity to say "maybe the mailman isn't delivering your mail" Are you an incompetent horse? did your mother drop you on your head when you were a baby? What is it? Ms. Lee knows who I am, but is surprised when I call and say, "you were the one that said, it was in the mail every week"

PARENTS EVERYWHERE do not sent your kids to this school. they will leave with a college degree, but no real life skills that will actually help them contribute to society!!

Ok thats my rant for today. I am so furious!! Let me put a disclaimer up so people do annoy me even more

Day Care Scavenger Hunt

Hello Everyone!!

It is only my second day off and I am already running all over the place. This week I really wanted to cross some important things off my list. I wanted to sign up for my hospital tour, take my breastfeeding class, and tour some daycare/child care places. Now the first 2 were easy to do, but touring day cares was exhausting.

I went to my first day care school. It was amazing. It had everything I wanted. They taught sign language, used music, kept schedules, had high security, and it was sooo clean :-) this facility focused more on academics, and I was loving everything they were selling. But of course there were some negatives:

1. no weekend hours
2. no part-time hours or rates
3. very expensive

Now, if I had the money I think I would send my little one there, but I don't know if I can afford spending more on daycare then I do my rent. I was feeling a little discouraged, but I visited another. It is more of a "chain" corporation. There rate was nearly the same as the first, and they didn't have enough experience and certification, so it did not make me feel at ease. My third visit is an at-home day care, with a women who contacted me through www.care.com. I made a profile and job post on the website just yesterday, and got 4 messages. This women was the only one that I could reply back to without having to pay the upgrade fee lol. She set up an appointment to meet with me the same day.

Good things:
1. close by
2. will work on weekends
3. certified in CPR, First Aid, and early childhood
4. very clean
5. lots of educational activities
6. affordable

Negatives:
1. doesn't care for sick (which is fine)
2. does have 2 teenage boys that are active (I feel bad keeping people from their families)

I know!! She was amazing. She has been married for 17 years, has a beautiful home in a very family oriented neighborhood. Her weekly rate is $175. 00 and there is a $100 deposit. She said she will supply wipes and formula (if needed, but hopefully I will be breastfeeding). Everyone said go with your feeling, and I have a good feeling about this. Her husband is going to retire from the Navy in about a year.

Tell me what you guys think!!

See ya

baby clothes everywhere!!

Hello everyone!

Well I have purchase 3 boxes of clothes from Craig's list. each box didn't even cost me over $20!! Some even still had tags on it. Talk about a steal. It did take me the whole day to finally get everything washed, dried and put away. My crib was no longer looking like a crib and more like a pile of everything lol. So, I cleaned out the the closet and bought some baby hangers and started to organize. I did organize piles for Newborn, 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-9 months and 9-12 months! I know it was a bunch of piles, but I got through it all. In my last Craig's list purchase, I got a lot of jeans and jackets. I was really happy because my baby is supposed to come in November, so it was perfect! My good friend from Japan, sent me a bunch of long sleeve onesies!! Can we say life saving. She is going to be the stylist baby out there. I am still looking for a leopard jacket lol! Every girl should have a faux fur :-) I think I am still going to need some more 6-9 and 9-12 month stuff, but I have a lot of great stuff. I even picked out her going home outfit :-)

My dad also came for a weekend visit, and boy did I get a bunch of stuff. The main purchase he made for me was a stroller and carseat. I LOVE IT!! it was the one I wanted and I can't believe that I have all these baby things in my place. She will be here so soon, and I can't wait! I also had a online coupon for a nursing pillow from www.mynursingpillow.com. All I had to do was pay for shipping. It feels kind of flimsy, so I still have my heart set on a My Breast Friend Pillow.

I have enough blankets and onesies, but I still want to get a swing and/or bouncer, a tub and DIAPERS!! So this will definitely be a busy month for me. I have been saving coupons for diapers, and will hopefully get to go to Sam's Club or BJ's to get some big boxes.

Eating has not been so good lately. The mental taste in my mouth has returned, so I end up not eating good because everything taste disgusting. I did buy some grapes, and those have been good; and I have been eating spaghetti for 3 days straight.

I just started my 25th week of this pregnancy, and have about 15 weeks to go. Since my due date has changed, I kind of feel like I am redoing some weeks or something. It just feels like it is dragging on for me. The baby moves a lot and now I can see it even more on the outside of my stomach. I haven't purchased any maternity close yet, I have just been wearing dresses that I have already in my closet that still fit. I know I just need to cave in and buy some, but ugh I hate the way they look.

See you soon,
Sabrina

Lets talk baby

Hello everyone!

So I just had another appointment with my midwife, and it went great. I think that was the fasted appointed I have ever gone to lol. My blood pressure was great, I gained 5 pounds since my last visit :-( (which is not so great, but I am gaining the weight steady and correctly), and my baby girl sounds amazing. She is perfect already lol. Even though she has been keeping me awake all night, especially when she is on my bladder. My next visit I will be going my glucose test, and getting some vaccinations. I am still thinking weather or not to get them, but my midwife assured me there is nothing to fear; plus I need them for a phlebotomy class I really would like to take next month. My appointment is early in the morning, and I am not happy about it. My doctor's office is 30 minutes away from me and they want me to be there at 9:50 am I can see the crankiness already. I might stay over my mother-in-law's house the night before, she lives a lot closer.

Some more good news....I finally did a registry. It was not as fun. A lot of searching and making sure it wasn't to expensive, and making sure I am actually going to use this stuff. My twin sis suggested that I do one at Babies R Us and Target, but oh lord it took me forever to get through babies r us. It kept putting 17 quantities for each of my selections, so I was updating the majority of the time lol. If you want to know my registry info, please leave me a message below. No one is obligated to get anything, even if you ask for the info. (no worries, we are all balling on a budget).

I finally got to get some fruit in the house. Walmart had to many California peaches and was selling them for 50 cents a box, so neat less to say that made my night. I ended up getting 3 boxes so 18 peaches.I got them mostly not ripe yet, so they would keep longer. Speaking about food. For a month straight, I have been eating tacos everyday. They are so good though lol. But with the finally straw, giving by my midwife, she says I have to eat cheese and eggs. I know what  you thinking, Its time to change the title of my blog, but don't fret I am not over doing it. I might have sour cream on a baked potato and on my tacos, or a slice of cheese on my vegan ham sandwich, but that is it. I even passed up buying Ben and Jerry's ice cream that was on sale. At the end of the day, My main concern is the health of my baby, so I will do as I am told (just this once).

Thats all for now,see ya!

Moving in slow motion

Hello everyone!

Now that pregnancy has slowly become a realization for me I feel like it is not moving at all. The new due date ain't helping either. As of today, I approximately have 116 days left of pregnancy. Boy am I ready for it to be over. I really can't wait to see her face, and have her meet my whole family; to see how great everyone is lol. But, I know I have to be patient, and time will come when I will be wishing she was still in my belly lol. I have realized we have a night owl. She doest really move during the day, but as soon as 10:00 PM hits she is playing dance dance revolution in there.

Nothing new this week. A couple of people at my job witnessed my tummy moving a little bit, so its nice that you can see her move from the outside. Its crazy but, but she moves it makes me feel like "ok she is still alive in there" lol. You sort of feel like a  fish bowl, and the fish happens to hit  the glass, but now, she is not holding back on the love taps. I have been drinking a lot of water lately, too. Sometimes it feels like I am on the brink of dehydration if I haven't had my 3 bottles before lunch. Fruit has been extremely expensive this week at he grocery store, so I haven't been ale to stock up like I used too. The other day they had cherries for $2.99 a pound. THAT IS CRAZY!!! I have been keeping bananas in the house and eating them with bran cereal in the morning or making peanut butter and banana sandwiches. Yummie :-)

I do meet with my midwife this week, so I will be able to ask some questions that I have and hear my beautiful baby's heart beat. I do have a stethoscope and can hear her very faintly, but it is always nice to hear the doctor and nurse to say "you baby sounds great!" I am nervous about weight gain from my last visit. I am not going to lie, I have been eating like a competitive eating for the past couple of weeks. Don't get me wrong, I have been eating healthy like vegan tacos, salads, soy milk, water, baked potatoes; but I have doubled some portions lol. I haven't purchased any maternity clothes yet (even though my mother-in-law keeps hounding me). I have been wearing a lot of dresses and just plain tee-shirts in 5 different colors lol. I try to dress them up with a necklace and cute sandals. I know I haven't posted a picture of me in a while, so I decided to take one the other day.

I do have to give a shout out to my amazing friends that have sent me old clothes from their little girls to use. It is definitely hard to buy so much stuff, but my friends and family have helped so much!! So shout out to Chelsea and Sarah, you girls are amazing and I can't thank you enough for your help!! I do believe in karma, so I hope to be able to help someone as well.

I have also decided to make a homemade crib mobile. This one is just going to hang over my changing table, but the other 2 will hang over the crib with family photos and shapes hanging from it.
I know it looks like a head of lettuce, but I think its a unique touch to my small abode. I am still not very nesty lol, but because I know I tend to procrastinate, I will be probably one of those people that clean at the very last minute lol. I do like to but things and make list, but cleaning ugh is not as fun lol. I do keep my apartment descent, but I guess it could always be cleaner.

I will let everyone know how my next visit goes.
See ya soon

Me and my Butler bump!!

Hello everyone!!

What a week it has been. My baby girl is moving like crazy. I understand its supposed too be amazing when they move, but to be honest it can sometime hurt a little. I guess I a, a wimp, but geeze Louise it can knock the wind out of you. I do have some new things to talk  about. These past couple weeks, nothing exciting has happened, but I did get an official due date :-) My doctor stated the estimated date is November 21, 2013. So I am happy to report that at least I will be able to complete my phlebotomy certification, go to my sister's wedding, and be on maternity leave during the holiday :-) To be completely honest,, I was not thrilled about the news at first, but my fiance made sure I knew all the positives, and told me to "stop being a poopie face." I know I know very childish, but pregnancy is so tiring and consuming. That is all you can think about all day. When and where iss the closet bathroom, can you eat that, did you drink enough water, get some sleep, not enough sleep, will she be ok, etc etc..

Good things:
With a new due date, I have began preparing for her arrival. I was able to find a changing table on craig's list for just $40!! What a steal; all i had to do was come pick it up. My mother-in-law came to pick it up for me because my car wasn't big enough. It has a little drawer and 2 shelves. (I will be buying some baskets for). The sellers also gave me the changing pad and 3 covers :-) I was so excited. I am probably a late bloomer, and still have not began nesting yet, but I am officially excited!! She is going to be so cute lol. My twin sis even got me some stuff!! She got me a manicure and first aid kit, and a cute outfit. I even had a pregnancy perk. I went to see Rent in a local theater, and during intermission the bathroom was crowded of course, but a nice lady was like oh she's pregnant let her go first lol Yea boi!!

I have also made a master list. Well master LISTS. I made a nursery list, baby essential list, hospital bag list, diaper bag list, and must have list. I have decided to plan out my purchases, so I don't have a bunch of random things. This week I am going to focus on storage items. So I will buy baskets for my changing table, clothes hamper, and trash can. My mother-in-law got me some socks, bibs, and onsies. Next week I will be buying hats, mittens, swaddle blankets and socks. Hopefully this will help we get the stuff I need in a timely manner.

Some bad things:
I applied for a higher position at work, but it kinda felt like they had someone in mind already and my interview was a formality. One of the supervisors even had the audacity to say "how will you do this job with a screaming baby?" This is a 3rd shift work from home position. I gave here a stank look, and in my head I wanted to say "none of your damn business" but I just left it at what has that have to do with my work qualifications, my baby will be taken care of.

Make up or should I say make down. My make up has look awful this week. Sometimes i look to greasy, then I will look like I don't have enough on. AHHH!! How can I leave the house looking like this. I am also getting little bumps EVERYWHERE and they will not go away. I am a mama balling on a budget and I can't keep buying things to try on my face, what is a girl to do?

Sleep is for the......well everyone but me. I sleep, but wake up still exhausted still. This week I am going to cal the doctor because I have been filling like I am missing something. Maybe I need a new vitamin, or something.

Well, that is it for the week. I only have  123 days left of this pregnancy!!!!
See you soon,
Sabrina.

What a week this was

Hello everyone!!

It has been a crazy week for me. Sorry its been so long since we have lost spoken. I work on the weekends, so Fridays are my Mondays, and I am glad to have a day off. I don't know how these pregnant teenagers do it, I am exhausted and cranky. Nothing crazy has been going on, just haven't been getting any sleep lately. Well I know I sleep, but I feel like I wake up exhausted and its hard to get motivated. I got back to walking again, but is hard when your back is hurting. I have also lost my appetite. During the early stages of pregnancy, I would get like a metal taste in my mouth and now it is back. I feel like sometimes I don't want to eat just to avoid that unpleasant taste that never goes away. I have been drinking water like crazy. I have gone through cases and cases of water, but they are getting harder to carry in my apartment, so I think it is time to start buying filters, or something for my faucet. Can you put that on a registry? lol!

I have come up with a name for my sweet, but I am going to keep that between me and my fiance. The final decision will be when I see her face, but I did have a dream where I called her name, so I think that is a good sign. My little granola bar moves like crazy!! I know that's a good thing, but sometimes it isn't very comfortable. Playing Haitian music, and talking to her dad usually get her jumping lol. Good news!! I did finally get some baby things (I know you are proud lol). Just a little bit of clothes, receiving blankets, wash clothes, and a lot of onesies. I started to buy long sleeve onesies since my due date is in November. I have been trying to find a coat, but all of them are like fluffy, furry, and light pink. I need something that wont get make-up on it so easily. I zoned in on a car seat and stroller I want, so all I have to do is convince my fiance that I deserve a designer diaper bag (don't judge me). I told him he could consider that as my "Push Present" but he still will not budge. I am going to end up just sneaking it into the house saying "this old thing" lol.

I have such an amazing family! I do not know what I would do without my sisters. They let me talk about myself, cry, talk about baby stuff, and never show me they have had enough lol. I would be losing my mind without them. I can't wait for my daughter to meet my family. My extended family is great as well. Unfortunately, I don't live close to my family, but but Fiance's family is great. His sister and I get lunch together, and my mother-in-law go shopping together. I still a little in shock that I will be some one's mother soon ahhhhh!! Crazy crazy!! I have been trying to image who and what she will be like, what she is going to look like, just everything. With all the stretch marks she is giving me, she better be nice outside the womb lol.

Product review:
So I bought that hamper drawer looking thing, and it is so......not what I expected. for $40 bucks, I didn't think it was going to be so small and flimsy. I will be returning it to Overstock this week, hopefully tomorrow...after my pedicure lol.

Well that is all for today!
See you soon,

Sabrina

Gender Reveal

Hello everyone!!

I recently had my anatomy ultrasound (US), and met the doctor for the first time on Tuesday. I found out that I have a new due date and I am 19 weeks and 6 days today. The doctor was AMAZING!!! He answered all my questions and made me feel so comfortable. I honestly would have never gotten a midwife if I had met him first; that is how great he was. The US tech on the other hand was slightly rude, but she could not rain on my good day. When she called me back, I advised her that my mother in law was not there, and she rudely stated well you appointment is at 10:30 and we have to get started *Please note, its only like 10:32 at this point* I was like "ok." I laid on the bed and lifted my shirt. Soon after laying down, the front desk call in the room saying "Sabrina's mother is outside, can she come in" The tech made it seem like she had to think about it. Excuse my language, but BITCH yea she can come in. I yelled out "yes!" and the tech says "I guess that is fine" Whatever!!! So the tech says she is going to OK up stuff for the doctor, then she will show us everything. We got to see the baby move, drink, kick, everything. I was trying to enjoy the US bot I had to pee so bad and they wont let you go until after. So, the baby was moving, the tech is pushing the US thingy on me, I thought I was going to pee on myself. They said the baby's heart rate was 155, so I said oh its a girl. The tech says, "that doesn't mean anything." I explained the wives tale to her in a giggle and she looked at me like I was crazy. But she could not damper my day, because I was seeing my baby :-P  I had her put the results in an envelope, so that I could video chat with Big Head and we would find out at the same time.

The baby is doing perfect!! Brain development is good, size is good, the baby is eating properly. I only gained 5 pounds from my last visit!!! I have gained a total of 10 pounds so far which is good since we are halfway. The doctor even gave me the OK to take the phlebotomy class and will sign off on all my paperwork and vaccination information!! I have decided NOT to do the child birth class because I don't have time too. To give 3 hours a week for breathing exercises is something I don't feel like doing. I did find an online course that I will try out and let you guys know. Yesterday was the best day I have ever had.

Now for the reveal, I hope you didn't spoil the surprise. So drum roll please............. We are having a beautiful, healthy, amazing baby..............................................................................GIRL. I did want a boy, but I feel like I am getting a gift I knew I wanted. I screamed, and I haven't stopped smiling. I am so excited, I cannot even express how happy I am. The news has not compelled me to purchase anything, but I have been thinking heavily on names. I just can't wait to meet her and see her. Me and my fiance are super excited :-) The tough part is thinking or names that start with an R, so if you have any suggestion please post!!

Thank you for wanting to share this wonderful news!!

See you soon,
Sabrina

Excitement is slowly creeping up!!

Hello everyone!

We I  did it. I finished my master's degree program (sigh of relief). Now that that is out of the way, I have to say I a bored to death, and all a girl can do is think about baby stuff. Luckily, my job is a work from home position, so I decided to do all these wives tales throughout the day. The first test was the urine and baking powder test. If the combination fizzes like beer, its a boy; if there is no fizz its a girl. I also did the pencil test. You thread a needle with string and stick the needle inside the eraser of the pencil. You then hang the pencil over your wrist. If it moves back and fourth, its a boy; if it moves in circles, its a girl. I also did the Chinese gender test. They ask you the month on conception and your age, then tell you whether you are having a girl or boy.

From my previous post, I did a questionnaire online, and the chain test. With a total of 5 different test, they have all given the same result..... IT'S A GIRL!! Now the true test will be whether or not they are correct, or the complete opposite. Everyone in my family wants a girl. Growing up with 2 sisters, and a crazy obsessed girlly mother (its funny if you know my mom), having a girl would be AHH-MA-SING (in my Penny voice from Happy Endings)!! But, everyone at my job, my fiance, my sister in-law want and say its a boy!! Which would be AHH-MA-SING as well. My next appoint is on Tuesday, and technically I can find out the sex of the baby, but I haven't really decided yet. Here are some of my thoughts:

1. Ask tech to write the gender down, and put it in an envelope. Then video chat with my fiance so we find out at the same time.

2. Don't find out at all, and wait till the birth.

3. Mail the results to my fiance, but tell him not to tell me or anyone else.

Decisions, decisions! I did manage to do some Baby Buys. Nothing crazy, there was a storage dresser I wanted and all the websites said sold out except Overstock, so I took that as a sign to buy the thing already lol.  It looks a little like this :Espresso Three Drawer Storage Unit Then I also bought a blanket, so I could get free shipping lol. The blanket has frogs and bees on it. It is really cute. But that was it. I will let my mother-in- law go all crazy on the baby stuff, she seems to enjoy it lol. I have bought myself a couple of new items. I went to Old Navy to pick up some solid tee shirts, that are easy to wear and comfortable (since nothing fits), and I bought a new shirt from Lerners New York. They had a huge sale; so since I will see my baby on Tuesday I wanted to look my best. It might sound crazy because i know the baby can't actually see me, but I want to look and feel good that day. Good vibes, good results, great appointment!! So I got a cute lavender shirt that has buttons going down the back with a new necklace. I only spent like $16 at New York co. so that is amazing to me :-) I am on my last pair of jeans that fits me (American Eagle Boyfriend cut). I know I should probably get maternity pants, but i haven't found some that aren't hideous lol. We will search next week promise promise!

Well that is all for today. I will update everyone on my appointment, symptoms, doctor questions, and yes a new photo! 20 weeks never looked so good!

See you soon :-)

Pregnancy Wives Tales

Hello everyone!

I decided to try some old wives tales to see what they would say the gender of my baby is. Now, I am not sure how accurate these are, but my big sis said that someone did a test on her and it stated she was having a boy. And I have a beautiful nephew lol :-)

After taking the online test on babymed.com, it stated that I was 73.3% having a XXX 26.7%  chance of a XXX. I don't want to say which side it favored because I feel its a little personal, and I haven't told my fiance what the results were yet.  I was asked questions about acne, weight, cravings, and nausea. I also decided to do the chain test. You hold a necklace over your belly. If the chain moves left to right, it a boy. If the chain moves in circles, its a girl. Can we say SPOOKY!!

Either way, I would be happy with a boy or a girl. I have picked out a bunch of names for both genders, even my fiance picked out some good names that are on the top of our list. I really want to see my baby's face before I really make a decision.

Well, just a little follow up before my work week begins.

See ya,
Sabrina

Just one of those days....

Hello everyone!

I know it has been awhile, but I have had a lot of work to get done in the past week. I have officially completed my last assignment for my master's degree program. I was pulling some tough all-nighters to get it all finished , and I got it done. Now, I have to wait a week or 2 to find out if I passed and will receive my master's degree. FINGERS CROSSED! I thought to myself that one this class was all over, I would try to start enjoying my pregnancy.....but that doesn't seem to be happening yet.

Don't get me wrong here; I love this baby, and I pray everyday that it is growing healthy and strong (like his/her dad). But me on the other hand, I am a ball of anxiety, irritability, insomniacs, and plain ol' nerves. I know people say this is all normal, but I have to wonder if i am just crazy. i know a lot has to do with being so far away from family. My Big Sis came to visit me, and I finally felt like I had a good 1 1/2 days. When she left, I just felt very lonely and bored. Now, I know what you are thinking-"where the hek is ur baby daddy?" lol He works away from home, so unfortunately, I don't get to see him as often as I would like. I have to say lucky for him, because these hormones do not make me a nice person to anyone. I have lived in this part of Virginia for almost 2 years, and unfortunately it still doesn't really feel like home sometimes. In Tennessee, everyone is friendly and you meet people everywhere and there are always real friends and family around. Here, I have a great mother-in-law! she is hilarious and is so excited about the baby, but sometimes I wish I just had a good girlfriend that came over to chill and eat popcorn and watch Scandal with, but people are not very friendly down here. I have met some people, but sometimes it feels like "ugh who wants to hang out with the pregnant chick." But geeze we have feelings to, we still like to do things. I still like going to the mall, and going out to eat, and going to the beach, and to the movies. But, It seems that I don't really have people to ask here to do those things with.

Ok ok enough with the cry baby stuff. Symptoms this week are insomnia, increased appetite, and exhaustion. Sometimes I lay in the bed and can't fall asleep. I have tried to do my hypnobirthing, but then I wake up in the middle of the night and can't go back to sleep. Ugh so then I am so tired by the time its mid-day and it makes me cranky. I have felt like a bottomless pit. eating and eating and not feeling full. I do LOVE marshmallows and salt. I can't say if that is vegan approved, but its so good, when I am having a bad day. I have been using Bio-oil and Carol's Daughter Sexy Belly, for my stomach, but I am still getting stretch marks :-( I had already had some pre-pregnancy, but not they are getting thicker and longer which kind of sucks. But I will need to accept battle scars of pregnancy. The baby moves like crazy, and I am glad he/she likes spicy foods. I haven't had heartburn this week which is good, but I have been drinking water throughout the day so I think it is helping.

I haven't felt like nesting just yet. I completed the crib just because my mother-in-law bought everything, but nothing new yet! Here is what it looks like for now. (it is yellow). I am still wanting to keep the gender a secret, so everything is a neutral theme.  I have made a "Master List" of all the essential things I need to purchase. Bobby pillow, extra sheets, extra blanket, towels, bottles, bottle cleaner, bath tub, Breast pump (mine will be free), night lights, baby monitor (optional) and large medicine ball (pour moi). I also wanted to get a new baby rug, but haven't been able to fine one yet.

I have my next ultrasound appointment in a week and I am very excited for it. I haven't had one since my first appointment at 10 weeks. I am nervous about stepping on the scale. My stomach is definitely bigger, and my clothes are definitely NOT fitting, but I am hoping that the weight is still steady.

Next week, I will let you know how my appointment went.

See you soon,
Sabrina

What a long week

Hello everyone!

I know its been a  long time since my last post. I have had a very long week for me. I am finishing up my last two weeks of grad school and I am  ready for it to be done. I have to type a 15 to 20 page paper and do a PowerPoint presentation. Lets just say I already have my master's in procrastination lol

I am officially at the 20 week mark!! Half way through this pregnancy already, phew that went fast....and slow. In the past week, I have suffered horrible heartburn. I mean fireball in my chest and stomach heartburn. Throughout the night I have had to chew Tums to get some sleep. So, I have been drinking a lot of water and staying away from high acid foods like oranges and pineapples, and spicy foods.

I am definitely getting bigger. I guess I was hoping it was going to happen later later later lol. Today, I couldn't button my pants. It was a sad day because I have been fitting into all my clothes until like yesterday lol. I keep seeing all these skinny pregnant girls with  their tight shirts and skinny jeans on, and I am like "dang, why is pregnancy so cute for them?" I am stuck with chest hair, acne, and heartburn WTF! I officially cannot sleep on my back or stomach anymore. So I have been sleeping on my left side because I heard it increases circulation.

I know a lot of people start nesting during this time, but I am not feeling like that at all. I keep going to the store and putting things in my cart, but not checking out. I don't have any baby items at thee house yet, just the empty crib my fiance put together. My big sis says, I will nest when I am ready, but I am definitely scared that I wont feel it until its to late.

I have been craving pulled pork and fried fish, but I have not satisfied these cravings. I have been sticking with my diet.

See you soon!

Hungry, Hungry Hippo!

Hello everyone!!

It has been a crazy week for me. Tears, sleepy, hungry, and even more tears lol! My poor fiance has had to listen to me cry over the phone for 2 days straight about things that can not be physically changed by anyone lol. My poor babe :-( Sometimes I don't even know why I am exactly crying, but he has been sticking with me (letting me buy things for the baby) and keeping me somewhat sane lol. I am not going to lie, watching Private Practice while being pregnant is never a good thing. They should definitely put a caution *may cause anxiety and lead to hypochondria in pregnant women. Please watch with caution and tissues*

My little granola bar is growing fast. This week I feel like I AM STARVING!!! I mean every hour, I feel like I haven't eaten in weeks. Today, I had a vegan chix'n sandwich, strawberry banana smoothie, 2 Popsicles, vegan blueberry muffin, and oatmeal until I finally said OK BABY!! So I made spaghetti lol. Now it may not seem like a lot, and trust me it was a small muffin, but I am still freaking hungry. I work from home, so I don't keep like cupcakes or anything crazy at the house, just healthy snacks. But healthy snacks in large qualities are healthy either lol. All day I have wanted a slice of cake, but the tornado warning and rain that stopped me lol

I have been mediating and listening to my hypnobirthing relaxation and birthing simulation CD. It is a great way to just get connected to you body, and also just have a time frame of relaxation and breathing. Honestly, I don't think I have made it through the whole audio because I've fallen asleep every time. I tried to look up some Hypnobirthing classes in my area, but they are a little to expensive for me, so I am going to stick to my CD and reading. I am going to sign my fiance up for "Daddy Day Camp" it is very cheap and shhh....I think he wants to take it. Man, do those classes fill up fast, so I paid for it, and told him when and where he has to go lol.

I have to sign up for a birthing class, but I wonder if they are really necessary? I do want to do my CPR license you know to brush up on those skills. I also have to start looking up pediatricians in my area, with Saturday hours, and close to my apartment.

See you soon!

Hypnobirthing, meditation, and yoga

Hello everyone!

I has recently purchased the HypnoBirthing: The Mongan Method: A natural approach to safe, easier, more comfortable birthing (3rd edition) by Marie F. Mongan. This books introduces mothers and their partner to relaxation and self-hypnosis techniques that allows mothers to give pain free childbirth. The books repeatedly stated that there is a 95 percent of success rate, so I  am going  to give it a try. I have my midwife, and a birthing plan, so it is time to start educating.......um...preparing for a fearless birth. The book comes with a relaxation disc that allows you to practice getting into tune with your body, pregnancy, and growing child. The book encourages that that is a partner, but I am a little short on that part. My twin sis is in Nashville, and will be doing some studying on her own to be  my "doula." No, she is not formally trained, but I know she will be able to keep me calm and make sure everyone is respecting my wishes. My fiance will be  there, but many of his friends have fainted during the birthing process, so I need someone a little more solid. (love you, babe lol). I kind of think my sis will be the voice of me and my fiance as we are focused on the birthing.

So far I have read about 50 pages in the book, and I will begin the audio CD tomorrow. I also got a new, low impact Yoga video. The Shiva Rea's Prenatal Yoga is designed for all stages of pregnancy. Walking has been good, but I would like to get some good stretching flexibility in my exercise. I will also begin that tomorrow morning.

Almost every morning I meditate. During this time, I pray, I breath, I clear my head, I fill it back up with things I have to do, etc. Its not a  religious thing, but my mom says its good to start your day with a clear head. She told me about mediating a couple of years ago, and I've done it ever since. Now don't get me wrong, I am not chanting in a dark room; I sometimes just lay in bed, listening to the birds chirp, the wind blow, airplanes going by, and its kind of my start to the day. During this time now, I feel like I am making a connection to my "granola bar" and I image the baby hearing my heat beat, and feeling my soul ( I know, pretty corny). It feels like our moment before I am running around all day not really paying attention to him  or her.

I am officially 17 weeks and 3 days! The weight gain has be good so I am very happy about that. I feel like since I have taken care off the OB/midwife situation, I am starting to enjoy pregnancy a little more (minus the getting fat during bikini season). I have recently found out that I am low on iron, so I really want to make sure this week I am finding grocery items that are high in iron, so I don't have to take an extra vitamin (the iron pills make my teeth yellow, yuck!). My midwife also spoke to me about the importance of eating eggs and cheese and she is highly recommending that I go back to eating them :-( She says that eyes and cheese provide necessary fat need for healthy fetal brain development. I haven't made a decision yet, but I will make one that has the health of my baby in mind always.

I will let you know my progress with yoga and hypno-birthing so stay tuned.
See ya!

Finally A Good Day!

Hello everyone,

I had my first good appointment, yay!! I met with the midwife at my new provider this morning. I got there at 8:45 AM. I know, I know what person is up that early on their off day lol. I  was on time, and had all the correct paperwork, so I was ready to go. Everyone in the office was really nice. I had to wait a little, ok a lot but the midwife was at the hospital at another birth, so I can respect that. She answered all my questions, let me listen to my baby's heartbeat, and everything was good to go :-)

My next visit will be in July, and they can tell me the sex of the baby. But I am not sure I want to know. I like the idea of it being a surprise. My fiance on the other hand, wants to find out and hounds me everyday about it, but I am going to stick to my guns on this one.

After this visit, I feel like I can get excited now! I am going to start researching hypnobirthing, so let me know if you know any good books!

I am thinking about a frog theme, for a neutral baby room. What are good neutral themes and colors?

See you soon!

Did I metion I LOVE food!!

Hello everyone!

I know what your thinking: "not another food post!" The best thing about becoming vegan, is trying new recipes and food options that are healthy for me and thee baby as well as delicious. I found this recipe online because I have an early appointment tomorrow and wanted something I could grab and bring in to the car with me. This recipe has NO raw items! I know crazy, right? I mean no eggs, no butter, no milk.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup vegan margarine
  • 1/2 cup pure cane sugar
  • 1/4 cup orange juice ( I just 1 freshly squeezed orange, didn't feel like  buying juice)
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1 tablespoon non-GMO cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup quick oats
  • 1 1/2 cup whole wheat pastry flour (I used regular non-bleach flour)
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 3/4 cups blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 teaspoons sparkling sugar sprinkles (optional)

Directions:
  • Preheat the oven to 375 to 400 (depending on your oven, mine is super hot, so I use 375)
  • In a mixing bowl, add all dry ingredients. ( I like to use a shifter for dry ingredients for a smooth batter)
  • Add wet ingredients to the dry mixture.
  • Once batter is blended, fold in the blueberries
  • Grease/or use cupcake wrapper on your muffin pan.
  • Fill each about 3/4 high.
  • Bake for 8 to 10 min or till knife comes out clean
For the original recipe CLICK HERE and check out a good vegan recipe blog!

They are so good and moist. I recommend that you eat them warm, but be careful, it is hard to stop eating them! The recipe will make 12 muffins.

Tomorrow, I have an early appointment with my Midwife. This will be my first visit with one, and I am so excited. I will let you know how it goes!!

See ya!

Trying a new breakfast!

Hello everyone!

Yesterday morning I tried a new Buckwheat pancake mix for breakfast. I am used to Aunt Jemima pancakes, but they contain milk and eggs in the ingredients. Buckwheat is a gain-like seed from the family of sorrel, knotweed, and rhubarb.  It is a starchy seed that is a great substitute for vegans and vegetarians everywhere. At the Health Nut store in Virginia Beach, I did buy buckwheat hot cereal. When prepared, it gives an oatmeal, cream of wheat consistency.

Now back to my breakfast. The pancakes actually came out very delicious. I used;

1 cup of the buckwheat pancake mixture
1/2 tsp of vanilla extract
1 Tbsp of maple syrup
1/2 tsp of cinnamon
2 to 3 Tbsp of sugar
a pitch of salt
1/2 of a packet of instant apple cinnamon oatmeal
1 to 2 cups of Almond sweetened vanilla milk (depending on how think or thin you like your pancakes add more milk).

My family and I are masters of making pancakes, so I really just eyeballed the majority of the ingredients, so this is just taste and make sure you like the consistency you have created.

I mixed the above ingredients in a mixing bowl and fired up my pan. They bubble the same as regular pancake mix. The cool thing is, you can add anything to the batter (i.e. blueberries, strawberries, bananas, etc.). whatever you have in the house will go great with them. I just purchase this brand of buckwheat pancake mix at Walmart for very cheap, so don't worry you won't break the bank and you are being healthy :-)

Finally, Some Good News!!

Hello everyone!

So I have some goods to tell you! I have found a doctor's office with a midwife in Chesapeake, VA.! The office advised me that I would also see the physician throughout my pregnancy as well just to get acquainted with the doctor if I would require additional medical interventions. I am comfortable with that arrangement, just didn't want to go in the hospital like I was having a medical emergency. I will be going to The Group for Women. My first visit is next month, so I will let you know how things turn out.

This week there was a feature blog article from  WeatherAnchorMama.com. Your insurance may have the Affordable Care Act on your policy, which entitles you to  FREE breast pump!!! Yes Its free. I called my insurance company immediately the next morning and found out I was covered!! I would be able to go to any lactation office of medical supply office and purchase it for free. They also said, if I wanted to rent one from the hospital (because it is a hospital grade pump) it would also be free. Additionally, if I have already purchased one, I could send in a copy of my POP (proof of purchase) and get a full refund. Though this process could take 8 to 10 weeks, that is still good to know. You can also check the Pumping Essentials and they can also help you with the process. For the full article/blog CLICK HERE. You are awarded one free breast pump a year per pregnancy.

Next week, I really want to talk about when the right time for nesting.
See you soon!!

Back From Vacation!!

Hello everyone!!

I know it has been awhile, but me, my twin sis, and a very dear friend took a weekend cruise to Nowhere!! That just means we didn't dock anywhere, we sailed to Florida back to Norfolk, VA. It was a lot of fun, and I can't wait to do it again.

This week, I am going to talk about keeping a healthy diet while on vacation, and........cheating on your diet after vacation lol. Like Planet Fitness, this is a no judging zone (I hope).

Going on the cruise, I was a little nervous. No alcohol, no cheese, no seafood; I just though this was going to be tough. My sister and our friend were getting the party started ordering drinks on the deck and I was ordering ginger ale and cranberry juice. One tip is to ask the bartender to make your non-alcoholic beverage LOOK alcoholic. I had an umbrella, pineapple, and cherries added to my cup to feel included in the party. Tip two, get up and dance, you will never see these people again anyway, so get your boogie on lol.

Now the important part: FOOD!!!
The awesome part of this carnival cruise, was the burrito line. Yummy! For breakfast, I got hash browns, lettuce, tomatoes, pico de gallo, hot sauce, and a wheat tortilla. For lunch, rice, black beans, lettuce, tomatoes, pico de gallo, hot sauce, and a jalapeno tortilla wrap, extra yummy!!

For dinner, we ate in the restaurant. They had minestrone soup as appetizer. It was good!! The dinner was even better, they had an Indian Vegetarian dish. It had spicy chick peas, rice, potatoes, and salsa and pita chips.

Unfortunately, my sister and I accidentally switched camera when she went back to Nashville, so this is the only pic that I have lol. The trip was great, they even had zero proof beer available lol.

When we came back from the cruise, it was just in time for a memorial weekend BBQ. This is probably the hardest time to stick to your diet. There was burgers, hot dogs, Mac N' Cheese, potato salad, ribs, BBQ chicken, steak, and everything else I miss eating. My mother-in-law did buy me and my sis some veggie burgers for the grill that were yummy, and some vegetarian baked beans (there is no pork added, just sugar and spices). So I had a burger, baked beans, cucumber salad, corn on the cob,  and.....this is when the cheating began. I had potato salad forgetting that mayo is used. I would have skipped it, but I really wasn't thinking. The BBQ was a hit, and I wish my sis didn't have to go back to TN, but we had a great time.

Ok, ok, this is when the cheating began. I have had a craving for Popeye's biscuits. I have probably eaten like 12 within 2 weeks. They are so good and buttery. Sometimes I have it with honey, or with vegan sausage patty (MorningStar maple). Me and my fiancee went to the beach, and stopped to get biscuits before we left. Ahhhhh, it is safe to say I have an addiction lol. But I am going to get back on track I promise; this is just a minor set back. Work starts back on Friday, so I will be confined to my house lol.

On my next post, I have some good news and some more good news so check back later today :-)

Having a Bad Day :-(

Hello everyone.

As you probably tell from the title, I am not having a good day today. I am trying to find a new doctor, but I am not finding what I need in Virginia Beach. My insurance representative recommended that I try the Dupaul Medical Center, but when I called, they are not accepting anymore patients with due dates before December :-( So my dreams of having a Midwife, may have to end before it even started.

I know many people may not see a big deal with having a baby with an OB/GYN, but let me give you some history on me. I have never been hospitalized before, so the idea of going to the hospital makes me feel like something is wrong or will go wrong. Having a baby is not a medical condition people, it is something that women all over the world have been doing for hundreds of years. To pay for a Midwife, out of pocket, its about $600 to $1000. What the heck is insurance for, if I would have to come out of pocket for medical care. If I want a Douala, that will be about an extra $300 to $500. What is a girl to do?

I have already tried my best fake cry to my fiance, but he is not budging with the funds, so back to plan B: find an office with less doctors. This is a lot harder than it looks! I have had a lot of people refer me to Dr. Grey in Chesapeake, VA., but there is about 6 doctors in that practice. The odds of him being available at my birth is...duh.. 1:6. Do I go with those odds? I found an office in Virginia Beach that has a Midwife on staff, but I have to fill out a crap load of medical history forms and wait to see if they will accept me already at 15 weeks and 2 day!!! Ahhhhhh!!!!

My anxiety is growing by the minute. My fiance is pretty laid back, and keeps telling me to relax, but how can I relax when I technically do not have someone to help me bring a human life into this world. ok, ok I guess that may seem dramatic, but I am a first time mom, and I am allowed to be dramatic!

So, whats a girl to do, as the weeks begin to creep on me and I am feeling backed in a corner? Well, Operation Crazy Mon To Be is in effect, and I can no longer be the nice girl anymore. This is about the well being of my child, so (excuse the phonetics) imma have to get gully on some folks!!

My goal is to find one before my weekend cruise with my twin sis and childhood friend. The hunt is on, and no one is safe lol!!

Wish me luck!

My First OB/GYN Experience.......

Hello Everyone!!
Well Tuesday, I had my first OB/GYN experience. When I normally go for my annual, I just see a nurse (we will call her "Nurse A"). Nurse A is amazing! we talk in her office every visit to catch up on anything I am experiencing, how I am with birth control, etc. Then we do my exam. She is so personable, I have recommended her to all my co-workers at work. Tuesday, I was really nervous. My Fiance was at his first appointment, so I wanted him to feel comfortable.  First, the doctor I was scheduled to see had not arrived, so I was told I would be meeting with someone else. I was ok with that because there are four doctors in the practice I will have to meet because one of them will be on call to deliver my baby. So, a nurse checks my vitals (blood pressure, weight, urine.). Everything was better than my last visit, so I knew vegan was the right choice for me. Any who, we wait for the doctor (whom we will call "Doctor BW"). Doctor BW is an African American with impeccable credentials. She enters the room and introduces herself. Below are the events lol:

Doctor BW: Are you here for a physical exam?

Me: No. I was given a drap because I had a dress on.

Doctor BW: Oh I was going to say, I was a little confused. Ok, lay back and lets listen to the heart.

Static noise......................................................................heart beat-heat beat (only 2 beats).

Doctor BW: Sounds good........ok have a good afternoon.

Me: Well I have a few questions.....

Doctor BW: ok?

Me: Is Soy Milk Ok, I heard some bad things online?

Doctor BW: (scuffss) Yes it is fine.

Me: Can I eat peanut butter, someone told it was bad for me?

Doctor BW: No, (scuffs) you can eat it.

My handsome Fiance: Can she run in her work out? (my fiance is a strength and condition coach)

Doctor BW: Did you run before you were pregnant?

Both: Yes!

Doctor BW: (surprise, and disbelief  face). Well, that means you can run, but let me remind you, that you can not start a new regime now that you are pregnant.

*Please note, that I run and work out on a daily basis, before I was pregnant. Ask anyone who knows me*

Me: Ok I guess that is it.

Doctor BW: ok, take this paper to the front. (door closes).

Talk about rude! I understand that you may have delivered a 100 babies, but this is my first so so some interest. She never asked me what my birthing plan was, how I was feeling. When I told her I have been getting headaches, she just replied with "ok." What kind of doctor doesn't want to get to know her patients. I have full coverage health insurance, I am at all my appointment on time, what is the deal. After venting to my older sisters, I was encouraged to contact the office manager and just request not to have her AT ALL. When I asked for the office manager, she was unavailable, so I left a pleasant message stating: Hello, my name Is Sabrina and I am a patient. I would really appreciate if you could call me at you earliest convenience. My number is ########. Again, my number is ####. I look forward too hearing from you. Thank you :-)

I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE A CALL!! So I have made the executive decsion, with my fiance's green light, to find another medical office. SO if anyone knows any great OB/GYN in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake area please let me know!  I would prefer there to be only 2 doctors in the practice and possibly a midwife.

Please let me know your horror stories.

Talk to you soon :-)

Food Favs and New Editions

Hey Everyone!
Here are some items I like to buy from the grocery store. I really like Harris Teeter; they have vegan and organic foods that you can count on. Additionally, they have the best sales on produce. One week, they had buy one get on free strawberries. These alternatives don't even feel like you are giving up food you love. the sour cream is great, the cheese melts perfectly, and those spicy hot dogs are AMAZING!!

I also made my personal favorite dinner tonight!! Meatless meatball sub!! I heat the "meatballs" and simmer them in the marinara sauce for 25 minutes. I warm a hot dog, ok 2 hot dog buns (don't judge, eating for 2 now), and top with vegan lactose free cheese. Yummy!

My twin sis, who is a vegetarian, loves making sloppy joes using meatless crumbles. Both Morning Star and Boca have meatless crumbles. You can normally find vegan alternatives at any grocery store, mostly in thee breakfast isle. I don't really know why they consider it breakfast food, but Food Lion and Walmart both sell Morning Star and Boca products. Don't be shy, give them a try. Another great company is SmartBalance. They sell cold cut alternatives like slice turkey, ham, Bologna, even bacon and pepperoni. Now,  I never liked bologna so I haven't tried that; to me you can never substitute bacon, so I haven't tried that, and I will try the pepperoni this month and let you know. Amy's Kitchen is also very good. If you work in an office and need some healthy microwave vegan and/or vegetarian meals, this is the one to buy. There is vegetable pot pies, Mexican bowls, and even some gluten free items. My favorite is the lentil soup, no chicken noodle soup, and the black bean soup. These are my splurge items, because a can of soup is sometimes almost $3. These are easy to pack in your lunch box, without packing on extra pounds in the office.

I am also trying some new products. My refrigerator looks sad, so I decided to replace the things that were missing with vegan replacements. I purchased cream cheese, butter made from soy, and almond milk. Now I have never been that much of a milk drinker, but I do like my occasional bowl of cereal. The butter was hard to find. I was at the grocery store just reading the ingredients for butter for a good 20 minutes lol, until I found the SmartBalance without buttermilk, Whey, or skim milk.

In the coming weeks, I will post some of my fiance's favorite vegan substitutes (and he is a meat eater), you will be pleasantly surprised :-) I will also share some of my homemade recipes that are easy, delicious and take about 30 minutes to make.

Please feel free to post your favorite vegan and vegetarian recipes, I like trying new things (especially dessert).
P.S. I learned the hard way, the baby does not like tofu.
